Safe, Reliable Medication Support in the Comfort of Your Own Home
Our trained carers help manage medication safely and accurately — giving you and your family the reassurance that prescriptions are taken correctly, on time, every time.
About This Service
Managing Medication Safely at Home
For many older adults and people with long-term conditions, managing medication correctly is one of the most critical — and most challenging — aspects of daily life. Missing a dose, taking the wrong amount or confusing medications can have serious consequences for health and wellbeing. Yet for those living alone or managing complex prescriptions, getting this right every day is genuinely difficult.
Our medication support service provides a reliable, structured solution. Trained Oice Support Services carers visit at agreed times to ensure medication is taken safely, at the right dose, in the right way and at the right time. Every visit is documented, and any concerns are reported to family members or healthcare professionals promptly.
We work closely with GPs, pharmacies and district nursing teams to ensure our medication support integrates seamlessly with a person's wider healthcare plan. Our carers are trained to the level appropriate for the medication tasks they carry out — whether that is prompting, assistance or full administration — and all medication activities are recorded in a digital care log.

What We Provide
What Our Medication Support Service Includes
Our medication support is tailored to each person's prescribed regimen. Here is what our trained carers can assist with:
- Medication Prompting and Reminders
Timely reminders to take prescribed medication, confirming it has been taken and recording the visit accurately in the digital care log.
- Medication Administration
For service users who cannot self-administer, our appropriately trained carers can administer oral, topical and other prescribed medications in line with their care plan and GP guidance.
- Dosette Box and Blister Pack Management
Checking, organising and supporting the use of pre-filled dosette boxes or blister packs prepared by the pharmacy — ensuring the correct medications are taken at the correct times.
- Eye Drops and Topical Applications
Assistance with prescribed eye drops, ear drops, creams, patches and other topically applied medications that require careful handling and accurate application.
- Medication Recording and Documentation
Every medication interaction is logged digitally at the point of care, creating a transparent, accurate record that families and healthcare professionals can access and review.
- Prescription Collection Support
Accompanying service users or arranging collection of repeat prescriptions from the GP surgery or pharmacy when required.
- Liaison With GPs and Pharmacies
Our carers and coordinators liaise with GPs, pharmacies and district nursing teams to flag changes, concerns or discrepancies in a person's medication regime promptly.
- Monitoring for Side Effects
Observing and reporting any visible side effects, adverse reactions or changes in a person's condition following medication, and escalating concerns to the appropriate healthcare professional.
- Controlled Drug Support
Where appropriate and with the correct authorisation, supporting the safe management of controlled medications in accordance with CQC guidelines and our internal medication policy.
- Missed Dose Reporting
If a service user refuses or is unable to take medication, our carers document this clearly and notify family members and the GP or district nursing team as required by the care plan.
Who We Support
Who Our Medication Support Service Is For
Older Adults Managing Complex Prescriptions
Many older adults take multiple prescribed medications each day — a situation known as polypharmacy — which significantly increases the risk of errors. Our service provides the consistent, trained support needed to manage complex medication regimens safely at home.
People With Dementia or Cognitive Impairment
For people living with dementia or other cognitive conditions, remembering to take medication correctly is a significant daily challenge. Our carers provide calm, patient medication prompting and administration support that is sensitively adapted to each person's communication and cognitive needs.
People Recovering From Surgery or Illness
Following hospitalisation, surgery or a period of serious illness, medication management is often more complex and more critical than usual. Our carers support safe medication routines during the recovery period, reducing the risk of readmission and supporting a smooth return to full health.
Our Process
How We Ensure Medication Is Managed Safely
Medication Assessment and Care Planning
During your free home assessment, our care coordinator documents all current medications, dosages, administration routes and timing requirements. This information is used to create a detailed, written medication care plan that is shared with the assigned carer and reviewed regularly.
Trained Carers Assigned and Briefed
We assign carers who are trained to the appropriate level for the medication tasks required. Before beginning, every carer is fully briefed on the individual's medication plan, any known allergies, relevant medical history and what to do in the event of a missed dose or adverse reaction.
Every Visit Documented and Reviewed
Each medication interaction is recorded digitally at the point of care. Family members can request updates at any time, and our care coordinators review records regularly. Any concerns — missed doses, refusals, side effects or changes in condition — are escalated immediately.
Why Choose Us
“Medication errors are entirely preventable. Our carers are trained, briefed and accountable — because getting this right is not optional, it is essential.” — Oice Support Services
